everyday essentials: Betsy Ruetz

What can I say? Betsy is one of our favorite people, ever. She's one-of-a-kind and she's one of the few people I know who fully embodies who she is (she has her betsy-ness down-pat, that is.) And its fabulous. These days she's busy running the Kate Spade store at Easton, but in her down time she knows how to do a cozy fall day. Here are her essentials:
1. flowers from rose bredl - every week, mary makes me a wonderfully unique arrangement. no two are ever the same! (we're flattered!)
2. fresh rose face mask - leaves my face feeling hydrated and soothed.
3. milk soap and lotion - k. hall - perfect neutral scent. and super gentle for my dry, delicate skin.
4. feu de bois candle - diptyque - sadly, our house has no fireplace. this is the perfect replacement.
5. cashmere throw - I personally need two adult blankies. (mine happens to be from restoration hardware.)
6. pendleton chief joseph wool blanket - adult version of a blankie.
7. bill campbell mugs - perfect for chai tea!
8. spode china - woodland pattern - collecting china is a time honored tradition in my family.

every day essentials: Jordan Sugarman

This week's every day essentials features Jordan Sugarman, a pilates instructor at Focused Fitness in the Arena District and a stylish gal, to boot. We love Jordan for her down-to-earth and friendly personality. Her visits to Rose Bredl always bring cheer! One thing we love about Jordan? Before anything else, Jordan says her number one essential in life is her family- whats not to love about a girl who knows her priorities in life?
"My family. I could not live without my amazing family. The laughter, love, and support from my mom, dad, brother and sister-in-law are essential to my every day."

1. Jax. Jax is my spaniel/hound/border collie rescue from the Capital Area Humane Society. I cannot imagine my every day without him - he has made my life whole.
2. My clients. My amazing clients are what motivate me day in and day out - their hard work, dedication to their mind and bodies, and commitment to Pilates make starting my own business worth it all!
3. Pilates. Pilates improves muscle tone, balances musculature, supports correct posture, and teaches one to move with ease and grace. I can't imagine my life without Pilates and am so lucky to be able to practice and teach a method that strengthens the mind and body.
4. Galison Decorated Sticky Notes. Every morning I complete my 3P's - I place a Post it note on the day in my organizer and write down one Plan (short- or long term goal), followed by a Positive thought. Post it, Plan it, Positive - no matter what lies ahead, I start out my day on a perfect "note".
5. Starbucks Chai Tea Latte. Before I start my day, I stop at Starbucks in German Village for my daily Chai - it's very calming to drink my tea as I drive in to the studio.
6. Fresh Flowers. There is nothing like stopping by Rose Bredl on Saturday mornings to pick up my weekly floral arrangements - one for my nightstand and one for my kitchen - something as simple as fresh flowers add a breath of life and cheer to anyone's home.
7. Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne. I can't leave the house without applying my favorite cologne - a spritz to the wrists, behind my ears and my décolletage.
8. Grosgrain hair ribbon. Monday through Friday you can find me with my signature bow in my hair - I like to add a little flair to my daily uniform of lululemon athletica and bare feet.
9. myAgenda Desktop Organizer. I couldn't live without my day planner - I love this one in particular because you can customize the layout to have it fit your particular needs and I love being able to have all of my commitments in one handy, fashionable place. It may not come with a cape, but I feel like an organizational hero with myAgenda!
10. Simpatico Candles. After a long day, I love to come home and light my beautiful hobnail candles - the nature inspired scents fill my home with fragrant illumination.

Jordan on the far right, with her family.

Courtney Gerlach: every day essentials for a balanced 2013

Courtney Gerlach is the owner of the new Barre3 studio in Columbus, and I am dying to try their classes now that I'm post-baby (Ive heard nothing but rave reviews.) Not only is she a great friend and a great client, Courtney has the right idea when it comes to living a healthy, balanced lifestyle, and she has amazing taste to boot!
1. Taking more barre3 classes! It truly is the most balanced, effective yet gentle workout I have ever found for my body. I would say this even if I wasn't the studio owner!
2. Theo chocolate- A little chocolate everyday keeps me from overindulging! Loving Theo Salted Almond Dark Chocolate right now.
3. Signing out and relaxing with a good book, preferably non fiction and made of paper, currently I am reading The Greater Journey
4. I drink a lot of water throughout the day and rarely go anywhere without a bkr bottle. Cool colors, glass bottles, you can't have just one!
5. Travel. I love breaking my daily routine and stepping outside of my comfort zone, it helps me to relax and reenergize. This year I'm working on a trip to Hawaii to celebrate my Mom's birthday.
6. The buddha bowl at Northstar Cafe- packed with perfectly steamed veggies every time and OH the buddha sauce!
7. My CAP Silver bracelets. I found them on a trip to Montana almost 2 years ago, my Dad tried to convince me that I would never wear them at home and I have worn them almost every day since. They remind me of wide open spaces, the beauty of nature and wonderful memories with my family.
 8. Steven Smith Tea- no. 55 for the morning, no. 45 for an afternoon caffeine free pick me up http://www.smithtea.com
9. Vince sweaters- It's a coat, sweater and a blanket, I rarely go anywhere without mine.

I love this photo our friend Betsy took of her Rose Bredl flowers in her home- so classic and unabashedly preppy (fresh cut flowers and a copy of take ivy, anyone?)

Recently design student Natalie Krick used Rose Bredl as a backdrop for her hand-drawn typography, and we love the results! Natalie used ice creams from local shop Jeni's (delicious) and created a mock wedding dessert menu (such a good idea). You can see more of her amazing chalkboard typography here.
ps- check out those garden roses!

Here a just a few of our favorite details: antique snow drop roses, campo de fiori pots, cupcakes, photobooths, twinkle lights...sigh. (I have to say though that the bride and groom themselves are really our favorite part about this wedding) We loved working with you guys, thank you so much!

PS- aren't the photos gorgeous? They were taken by the seriously talented Lauren Byrdy

General Goodness

Photobucket

These illustrations by Penelope Dullaghan remind of the coming autumn. They have such a lovely quirkiness to them, and I love a good mary jane, don't you?

Also, we were so thrilled when Elizabeth featured the store yesterday over on Love is the Adventure! (it was a goody goody gumdrop kind of thrilled.) Elizabeth is adorable and sweet, and we love the sense of humor she brings to the blogging world. Stopping by her blog on any given day is a good idea: you will be instantly edified/ cheered up.
