It's almost July and we've seen more grey skies here than whats good for us. I need COLOR! Kate Spade's retail store in NYC is so colorful and so cheerful and so unbelievably well merchandised, what's not to love? (The big pink peonies are so Rose Bredl-esque)
If you're looking to add rustic charm to just about anything, look no further than burlap. We love the material here at Rose Bredl and use it in all kinds of fun ways! Over the weekend we wrapped various herbs in burlap bags for centerpieces at a German Village Haus und Garten tour party (top). Burlap is easy to stamp or print on - which makes it easy to personalize as well (wedding favors, anyone?)
1. utility canvas napkin & placemat 2. enamel dinner plate 3. mongrammed melamine glass 4. preppy grosgrain DIY napkin rings 5. utility canvas blanket 6. utility canvas tote bag
Who doesn't love a preppy picnic- cape cod/ independence day style with red, white and blue canvas and grosgrain ribbon? I'm looking forward to a chance at enjoying the nice weather this weekend (comfest, maybe?)- and the utility blanket is a great go-to for enjoying the outdoors. To help get your own weekend merriment started- mention this blog post and get 20% off your utility canvas purchase at Rose Bredl this weekend!
June Bride? Wear this lighthearted Christos dress (I adore swiss dotted lace) available at Big Rock Little Rooster/Carry this Rose Bredl bouquet of garden roses, sweet pea and lilac.
"mom's got a great idea for July with a star, a stripe, and a great big fire cracker!" - name that movie
I am dying for some of this delicious citrus cake- find the recipe here.
and this recipe popped up here right after a discussion on the possibility of freezing greek yogurt (mmm). SO glad for my Zoku! (A gift from this fabulous lady)
For many, Father's day is a special day to remember all that dad has done for you to make you who you are today. Mary's dad, Bob Ernst Sr., passed away in November 1993 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, and I know on this day more than any other she is missing him. So today she is sharing with you a small tribute to the wonderful father she lost. Mary, I know he would be so unbelievably proud of you and all you have accomplished.
"What can I say? My heart is still aching 17 years later!
He had the biggest heart, the best laugh and he was the hardest working, most humble person I ever knew.
He loved his flannel shirts, his buffalo sabres, ice skating, buffalo chicken wings, labatt blue beer and winston cigarettes.
My favorite memory is when he came home one night to tell us that we were getting an inground swimming pool! I was in 5th grade and thought I was the luckiest person ever.
he died on november 6, 1993 of pancreatic cancer, he was 55.
words cannot express how much I loved him. His friends told me at his funeral that I was his favorite :) that always makes me smile. "

We are so happy to introduce you to our new friends, local flower farm Sunny Meadows. Owned by Gretel and Steve Adams, the farm is located just 6 miles from downtown Columbus. You can now find a flower selection at Rose Bredl that comes straight from this Ohio grower! (right now we have sweet pea, delphinium, and lillies)
Dad has his own special table here at Rose Bredl if you are still searching for a good father's day gift.
Dads are famous for their (sometimes unsolicited) advice, and "1001 Rules for my unborn son" is a treasure trove of funny and very real advice from the dad thats still "hip, cool, and bad" (my Dad's self-description)
You can always thank your dad for all his good advice this Father's day by following it :)
Father's Day is next sunday, so we rounded up a few of our favorite gift ideas for Dad to make your search easier! Fathers are always the hardest to buy for, even though the masculine stuff out there is so cool these days! Proof:
1. Voyage money clip from Bella Moda Co. 2. Framed photograph by Patrick McColgan* 3. Shoreline or Tonic scented candles from K.Hall* 4. good, sturdy garden tools 5. Succulents * 6. Blundstone Boots* (for the guy who does it all) 7. original Corgi cotton socks (I like the anchors)
The * means you can find it at Rose Bredl.
And of course, you can always write Dad a letter, poem, or make him a picture (he'll love it, I promise)
The world is a lusciously green place right now after all of the rain (and now sun) we've had here and it is glorious! The store is brimming with healthy plants, and new pots to plant them in. And I'm loving these hand-made garden tiles that arrived yesterday! My husband and I actually have the garlic one hanging on the wall in our kitchen (his choice), but I love the idea of the dragonfly for a small garden or screened porch. Ahhhh, summer.
I am feeling completely obsessed with Young Victoria. The style in the movie is unbelievable. I absolutely love how the Queen is wearing flowers in her hair or on her dress in almost every scene! What a beautiful inspiration for a bride. I love these floral fascinators made by Gardens of Whimsy, they would be beautiful for a summer wedding.
Keep reading this week for photos from the amazing wedding we got to participate in over the weekend (hydrangeas, peonies, ivory porcelain vases and more!)
We picked up a huge new shipment of herbs last week from our local (yes, local!) herb farmer and they are so fragrant and green- they scream summer garden. An herb garden is a wonderful thing to have on hand for cooking, and they are easily kept handy in a container garden right outside your kitchen door. The best part? Stop in at Rose Bredl this weekend at gallery hop for buy two get one free!
PS- for an amazing Salsa recipe (you can use your new cilantro) look here.

What says June more than a Bride? Tara and Kent were actually married in May this year but I thought we'd kick off June on the blog with a fabulous wedding. Peach garden roses, sweet pea and hydrangea were a perfect accent to Tara's floral inspired gown. We loved that the bride used oversized milk cannisters with hydrangea as decoration- SO spring and so fresh!
