Father's Day: a tribute

For many, Father's day is a special day to remember all that dad has done for you to make you who you are today. Mary's dad, Bob Ernst Sr., passed away in November 1993 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, and I know on this day more than any other she is missing him. So today she is sharing with you a small tribute to the wonderful father she lost. Mary, I know he would be so unbelievably proud of you and all you have accomplished.

"What can I say? My heart is still aching 17 years later!

He had the biggest heart, the best laugh and he was the hardest working, most humble person I ever knew.

He loved his flannel shirts, his buffalo sabres, ice skating, buffalo chicken wings, labatt blue beer and winston cigarettes.

My favorite memory is when he came home one night to tell us that we were getting an inground swimming pool! I was in 5th grade and thought I was the luckiest person ever.

he died on november 6, 1993 of pancreatic cancer, he was 55.

words cannot express how much I loved him. His friends told me at his funeral that I was his favorite :) that always makes me smile. "

The world is a lusciously green place right now after all of the rain (and now sun) we've had here and it is glorious! The store is brimming with healthy plants, and new pots to plant them in. And I'm loving these hand-made garden tiles that arrived yesterday! My husband and I actually have the garlic one hanging on the wall in our kitchen (his choice), but I love the idea of the dragonfly for a small garden or screened porch. Ahhhh, summer.

I am feeling completely obsessed with Young Victoria. The style in the movie is unbelievable. I absolutely love how the Queen is wearing flowers in her hair or on her dress in almost every scene! What a beautiful inspiration for a bride. I love these floral fascinators made by Gardens of Whimsy, they would be beautiful for a summer wedding.

Dance to the music!

We've officially been in business for three years in our happy home, the short north. A big "thank you" goes out to all of those who have and continue to support us, we can't thank you enough.

We picked up a huge new shipment of herbs last week from our local (yes, local!) herb farmer and they are so fragrant and green- they scream summer garden. An herb garden is a wonderful thing to have on hand for cooking, and they are easily kept handy in a container garden right outside your kitchen door. The best part? It's June...

What says June more than a Bride? Tara and Kent were actually married in May this year but I thought we'd kick off June on the blog with a fabulous wedding. Peach garden roses, sweet pea and hydrangea were a perfect accent to Tara's floral inspired gown. We loved that the bride used oversized milk cannisters with hydrangea as decoration- SO spring and so fresh!
