Sweet & Simple, Gorgeous & Green

Imagine your garden is as beautiful and accommodating as the one in Father of The Bride and you'll soon be wanting a backyard wedding all of your own (minus the bad poufy sleeves). We're loving the idea of a traditional but simple affair with a modern take on a 50's garden wedding- where jordan almonds and baby's breath are not only welcome, but expected. These old fashioned elements are popping up all over the place these days in ways that are anything but passé. Add a few rustic elements and you have a perfect spring wedding; sweet and simple, gorgeous and green.

Chalkboard Typography

Recently design student Natalie Krick used Rose Bredl as a backdrop for her hand-drawn typography, and we love the results! Natalie used ice creams from local shop Jeni's (delicious) and created a mock wedding dessert menu (such a good idea). You can see more of her amazing chalkboard typography here.
ps- check out those garden roses!

blue {hydrangea} monday

Kate was officially the happiest bride ever- and you can tell from her photos (magnificently captured by Jennifer of JoJo photography.) The radiant blue hydrangeas she chose for her bridesmaids to carry were as bright as her smile.

flowers in the window

just like everyone's favorite Travis song...right? But aren't these pretty? You can easily do this yourself for a party (a shower, perhaps?) or just because its nice to be greeted with flowers on any occasion.
to accomplish:
1. Take an standard size piece of kraft paper and fold into a cone
2. fill a plastic bag with water and secure with a rubber band around the stem of your chosen flower (or use floral tubes from any floral supplies carrier)
3. gently snestle flowers down inside paper cone- use a rock for weight if needed.
4. tie with pretty ribbon or twine and voila!

for Whitney: chevron and posies

Whitney is one of our brides at Rose Bredl, and her upcoming June wedding is going to be an elegant terrace affair with charcoal grey and coral accents. The bride, who loves bold patterns (especially chevron) found much of her inspiration from this wedding featured on style me pretty, so I sprinkled images from this throughout. She is working with Finer Things Event Planning to nail down the details of her big day, and we thought we'd help by creating an inspiration board tailored just for her.
Some of the details:
terrace with twinkle lights found here.
Chevron table setting (and other chevron-y goodness) found here
coral bridesmaids dress, J.Crew.
the cake is an inspiration from this previous rose bredl post
The bride herself sent me a few of these images- including the adorable instagram of their save-the-dates from Design by Bittersweet, and bridesmaids' card by Rifle paper

love & other mugs

The weather is SO GROSS. I'm looking forward to curling up with the one I love and a cup of hot cocoa when I come home from work.
I love these valentinesy hot cocoa ideas, too. Use a cookie cutter to cut heart shapes out of marshmallows, or, out of cool whip thats been spread on a cookie sheet chilled freezer. ( I really want to try this one, since my mom always put cool whip in our hot chocolate as a kid)

Valentine Brunch wear/carry

I'm loving the new Peony bottled perfume from K.Hall that just arrived in the store. It has that perfect note of girliness appropriate for both a meet-up with gal pals or a romantic dinner with the one you love.
Since some of the greatest sweethearts in your life are your best girlfriends, start a sweet tradition by meeting for brunch at your favorite cafe Valentine's morning. Show your sisterly love by bringing each girl a simple cut peony stem in a bud vase she can keep in bathroom while she gets ready for her big date that night!

For Mallory: Winter Pink and Cream

Here is an inspiration board made for Mallory's potential winter wedding. She still loves the ideas of white and pink and I think it works splendidly with a winter theme. I added small pops of sage green and blue (for Clay) to keep it from being too peaches and cream.

{small luxury} warm winter whites

DBO home pottery is so delicate and beautiful on any day- but the way the warm winter light was shining yesterday it looked extra splendid against the glossy black table. These are the small luxuries that take us through Ohio winter...

Color Love:

I loved the palette from this bouquet Mary made for an event yesterday- the pretty greens and pinks just popped paired with the softer neutrals throughout. I always love when brides venture away from the two-color wedding theme. It makes everything more interesting (not to mention easier for planning- since everything you plan on having at your event has to be only two colors- and exactly the same hue as the two colors you chose.) Draw inspiration from a favorite photo, you'll find there are hundreds of colors working together to make one big happy scheme- then pick your favorites!

For Mallory: Springspiration

So, my friend Mal also just got engaged. Its still up in the air whether or not they'll have a spring or autumn wedding so their color palette is not set in stone. I built this inspiration board around a bouquet she pinned on Pinterest, and by pinning the things I knew she would love. Vintage, elegant, rustic, soft, colorful and out and out gorgeous.

wintry good eats
So I felt like posting some delicious wintry recipes would be a balm for the cold and dreary weather, and I love the idea of a clementine marmalade (especially with whiskey in it). You can find the entire recipe here. It looks involved, but well worth the end result.
This recipe for Michigan Pasties, reminds me of my early college days and is the perfect lunch or quick dinner treat on grey days like today.
My friend Amy posted this recipe for shortbread with pear glaze and pecorino cheese and I am dying to try it. It looks like the perfect accompaniment to a hot cup of tea.
Hope this warmed you up!
